On September 30th in the year of 2022, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun or known as the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) re-collaborated with Titan Baking to hold a culinary training by applying a Cooking Demo method with a menu of dim sum and cheese sticks. One of the great spirits of this program is to invite all components of the nation, especially through the entrepreneurship program to rise during the pandemic.
This training was conducted at Titan Baking’s kitchen, located at Titan Baking Fatmawati Jl. RS. Fatmawati Raya No. 51B, West Cilandak, Cilandak, South Jakarta. The previous collaboration with Titan Baking was carried out by YIIM in 2019 and in 2020 with around 39 culinary training beneficiaries and currently they are opening various businesses in the field of pastries and cakes as well as various types of snacks in the Jakarta and surrounding areas. There are alumni from this program who have become coaches or mentors for culinary classes, for example, Mrs. Wanmayetty, whose profile can be seen HERE.
The training activities are fully supported by Insight Investments Management Company (known INSIGHT), as an investment manager company that has a high concern for various social and humanitarian activities in Indonesia. This training is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 1concerning to reduce poverty and number 10 concerning to end inequality.
Beneficiaries Background
Beneficiaries consist of pre-prosperous communities, disabilities and correctional inmates.
A total of 23 participants consisting of 18 female participants and 5 male participants, 11 of whom were people with disabilities, and 3 of whom were inmates of the Correctional Center or ex-convicts, and 9 participants with social backgrounds including pre-prosperous people.
This training was started by a speech from Mrs. Dewi Astari as the secretary of the YIIM management. She conveyed, “This cooking entrepreneurship training is one of the tangible forms of economic empowerment programs for the community, especially for the pre-prosperous communities. Disabilities and correctional inmates also have the right to have the same opportunity to acquire cooking knowledge which can later be applied in pioneering MSME businesses that will be started. YIIM, supported by Insight Investments Management company, has created many entrepreneurs, one of which is in the culinary field, it is hoped that this training will increasing success stories of the new entrepreneurs in the culinary field. Thanks also to Titan Baking, which are working together again to help people in need.”
Training materials
The Cooking Demo entrepreneurship training starts at 10.00 WIB. The training was led by Chef Dhimas Suryo. The chef teaches dimsum making, from skin making to dimsum filling. Furthermore, the participants were taught the second recipe, namely a cheese stick snack.
During the event, participants were very interactive and also asked many questions directly to Chef Dhimas. Mrs. Siti Hodijah is one of the participants with a deafness, asked the Chef how to make the dimsum skin last longer. This shows the enthusiasm of Mrs. Siti, although with her limitations, it does not hinder her enthusiasm to learn in the cooking training held by YIIM and INSIGHT. To give rewards to participants who actively ask questions and participate in the training, participants are given goodie bags containing dimsum raw materials and cheese sticks that participants can practice at home.
YIIM and INSIGHT are committed to assisting and delivering underprivileged groups of people and groups of people with disabilities to become competitive communities based on local resources. As a non-profit organization The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development is very open to all parties who wish to support or provide donations in any form.
