BAMBANG SUSIANTO: Correctional Inmates (Former Convict) Alumni of Entrepreneurship Training Actively Innovative

Bambang Susianto or usually called Mr. Bambang (60 years) is one of the alumni of the entrepreneurship management training program. This program is one of the programs that aims to improve the soft skills of the training participants and increase the business productivity of the training participants.

Mr. Bambang is a former convict for terrorism crimes (Napiter) from Probolinggo City. At that time, Mr. Bambang was sentenced to 2 years in prison, and began serving his sentence from August 2018 to August 2020. Mr. Bambang was placed at The Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Region of the Indonesian National Police.

This training is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDGs number 1 regarding on eradicate poverty, number 2 regarding on end hunger, number 8 regarding on decent work and economic growth, number 10 regarding on reduce inequality, number 16 regarding on peace, justice and strong institutions , and number 17 regarding on partnership to achieve goals.

The training was organized by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun / the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM)  in collaboration with the Malang Class I Correctional Center (Bapas Class I Malang), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Security Council Counter – Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), United Nations of Office Counter-Terrorism – UN Counter Terrorism Center (UNCCT) and From the People of Japan on 28th to 29th March in the year of 2022.

Start a New Chapter in Life by Pioneering a Culinary Business

Before becoming a convict, Mr. Bambang was a retired teacher at a public junior high school (SMP) in a school in the Probolinggo area. After serving his sentence, Mr. Bambang started a new chapter and ventured to open a business in the culinary field, namely a noodle shop and a vehicle repair business cooperation with his children. Mr. Bambang’s business location is where he lives. since a long time ago he lived on Sumber Taman Kencana Lima street, the city of Probolinggo, since this location has not been too crowded. The various food menus that Mr. Bambang sells include kopyor noodles, Cwi noodles, mixed tofu and rice cake noodles. Besides that, Mr. Bambang also sells various drinks such as coffee sachets and various juices.

Mr. Bambang is an alumni of the YIIM training who was still running a business when he attended the training. During his entrepreneurship, Mr. Bambang also encountered many obstacles, such as business capital and the price of food raw materials which sometimes increased. Of course, this made it very difficult for Mr. Bambang to maintain his business.

Post Training by YIIM, Start Marketing Innovation

However, Mr. Bambang admitted that he was greatly helped after getting the material taught from YIIM’s social entrepreneurship management training, such as product innovation and digital marketing. To expand his business, Mr. Bambang has entered his business on food ordering platforms such as GoFood.

Apart from running his business, Mr. Bambang also has an agenda or concentration on da’wah, to invite Muslim residents around him to prosper the mosque together, by enlivening the mosque with various activities. Mr. Bambang encourages so mosques can be active with various activities not only after prayer time and then the mosque was closed aspiring to build civilization. He also often carries out social activities such as holding blessed Fridays for the community around his house.

Mr. Bambang’s hope for YIIM will always be growing and fellows YIIM can help training alumni in order to strengthen the community’s economy so that it is not shaken by exposure, family life can be stable while maintaining obedience to God.
