Wisnu Dwi Putranto is a quiet man from Probolinggo City, he is a former convict of terrorism (Napiter). Before getting caught in the case, he owned a cell phone pulse, accessories and service business, which could be considered very advanced and had many regular customers. The business location was strategic and had many loyal customers. But when Mr. Wisnu was arrested and finally detained, his business practically stopped. He was sentenced for 2-4 years in prison.

Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun or known as the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with Malang Class I Correctional Center (Bapas Class I Malang), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Security Council Counter – Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), United Nations Office Counter-Terrorism – UN Counter Terrorism Center (UNCCT) and From the People of Japan were holding social entrepreneurship management training on March in the year of 2022. Wisnu Dwi Putranto or who is usually called Mr. Wisnu is one of the alumni of the training program.

This program is one of the programs that aims to improve the soft skills of the training participants and increase the business productivity of the training participants. This training is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDGs number 1regarding on eradicate poverty, number 2 regarding on end hunger, number 8 regarding on decent work and economic growth, number 10 regarding on reduce inequality, number 16 regarding on peace, justice and strong institutions, and number 17 regarding on partnership to achieve goals.

Business Had Stopped No One Able to Continue.

Mr. Wisnu’s business had stopped. No one be able to handled either from family and relatives or people he knows. In fact, at least the business of pulse and accessories can still be continued. In addition, customers are worried to make transactions at Wisnu’s counter because he was involved in terrorism cases.

This can be seen from the fact that there were dozens of cell phones which were in the process of being repaired, but were not taken by the owners to this day. Even though his family at that time had distributed information via social media in order to those who had cellphones in repair at the counter took them to the counter, still no one took them.

Struggling to Rebuild Trust

When Mr. Wisnu returned from prison, he admitted that the hardest challenge was to restore the people’s trust. Moreover, he has no good communication skills. Luckily people around him were proactive enough to help him. At least there are a few people who often hang out in front of his counter to keep him company. This is felt to be quite helpful in growing his spirits.

At the beginning of reopening the cell phone service shop business which called “Dhimaz Cell”, he was assisted by his supervisors at the Class 1 Bapas Malang and from the supervisors in the Probolinggo City Police area to get customers. From customers who are mostly friends of his coaches, to step by step rebuilding his reputation. By the time, people are returning to the counter because they see that it is starting to become active again.

Productivity Increases Post Training

Until finally Mr. Wisnu took part in a social entrepreneurship management training held by YIIM and Bapas Class 1 Malang in March in the year of 2022. He was very grateful to have the opportunity to take part in the training because the impact was very pronounced on his business productivity.

“I have applied the results of management training from YIIM to my business,” He conveyed.

For Mr. Wisnu, the entrepreneurship management training is very useful for the development of his cell phone service business. Among them, he has implemented business basic financial bookkeeping. It turns out that having a record like this really helps him to measure and evaluate the development of his business.

Then he also applied marketing strategy material from YIIM’s training results, by utilizing social media such as Facebook, WhatsApp stories, Instagram, and even Tiktok. To design the content he uses the Canva application, in accordance with the material on how to design using Canva that has been taught by YIIM choaches.

“After learning how to design using Canva and a digital marketing strategy, I immediately put it into practice by immediately creating accounts on social media such as FB, IG, story WA, and even tiktok. It turns out that social media makes customers trust my business even more.” He conveyed.

Thanks to this ability, he admits that customers increasingly trust his business and his business is increasingly recognized by the public. Furthermore, Mr. Wisnu conveyed his hopes to YIIM, he hoped that YIIM could continue to run programs like this and not only stop at training, but also make plans for the next follow-up. And he hopes to be able to share and learn from the knowledge gained from YIIM and his own experiences with the community and other friends.
