Billy Yanuar Fadila (20 years) or usually called Billy is one of the recipients of the Inspiration scholarship given by the Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun/the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT) and the Plantation Pension Fund (DAPENBUN) in the year of 2019. Billy is a student Plantation Education Institute Polytechnic (LPP) Yogyakarta with a Diploma 3 major in Plantation Plant Cultivation.
Billy has graduated in the year of 2021 with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.91 and the thesis title “ALIAS (Meja Until Pasti Pas) Innovation of Until Fertilizer Tool in Increasing Yield Uniformity and Effectiveness of Fertilizer Utilization in Afdeling IV Aek Nabara Gardens Supra Matra Abadi Asian Agri Company”.
Billy is a man from Banyuwangi. He is the second child of two brothers. Currently, the father owns a car repair shop and the mother is a housewife. In his neighborhood, most of them have graduated from junior high school (SMP) or high school (SMA) and work as farmers or occupied as construction workers.
Billy’s interest in agriculture
Since attending high school Billy was very interested in the field of agriculture and wanted to learn specifically about the field of agriculture. At the time Billy was consulting with the BK teacher (Counseling Guidance) there was a polytechnic campus in Yogyakarta in the field of plantations, namely the Yogyakarta LPP polytechnic. Then the polytechnic also conducted outreach at Billy’s school. After the socialization, Billy found out about the campus and saw a post on Instagram about a scholarship given by DAPENBUN.
Find out about the post, Billy was interested and finally enrolled in the Yogyakarta LPP Polytechnic. Billy’s parents strongly supported Billy to pursue college education. His parents are very open and provide the best education for their children. After a while, Billy finally received information that he was accepted at LPP Yogyakarta and got a scholarship. All of Billy’s family were very happy and proud that Billy got a scholarship to study at university.
When Billy was in his hometown, not rare he got talk from some of his neighbors like “Why go to college, it’s better to work, stay at home”. These words made Billy even more enthusiastic and wanted to prove that his decision to go to college was not in vain.
Activities During Lectures
During Billy’s college education, Billy joined several organizations. In the first year he joined the Plantation Plant Cultivation Study Program Association and served as deputy chairman. Then in his second year Billy joined the Student Representative Council and served as chairman. In addition, Billy also joined the Student Activity Unit (UKM) in the field of Islamic spirituality as a member of the field of studies, and social health as a member of the education sector. Outside the campus, Billy also joined the Organization of the Working Council of the District Scout Movement Branch. Banyuwangi and served as a member of the field of Scouting Studies.
During his lectures Billy won several competitions, namely 2nd place in the Silver Medal in the Business Plan Scout Competition in 2020 as a representative for Banyuwangi Regency which was held at the Karya Festival and 3rd place in the National with the Campus Business Plan competition in the year of 2021 held by BEM Sriwijaya Polytechnic.
While carrying out his lectures Billy also trained scouts in his hometown. Billy gets paid IDR 250,000 for 2 weeks. Then Billy was also a speaker at an inspirational discussion forum with the theme “Again Corona, What Can Youth Do?” along with several other YIIM scholarship recipients in the year of 2020.
Successfully Getting Work in Interested Field
After graduating, Billy started looking for work. While looking for a job, Billy received information on job vacancies from the campus and finally Billy enrolled in several companies. After waiting a while, Billy was accepted at several companies that he signed up for and Billy chose one of the companies, namely the Bumitama Gunajaya Agro company. Since November 2022 Billy has started his job, namely the company’s Management Trainee. Billy ran a Management Trainee for 6 months before taking up the position of head of administration (KASI) in West Kalimantan, Ketapang Regency.
Billy was very happy because slowly his dream came true. Billy was able to prove to the people neighborhood that his decision to continue his tertiary education was not in vain. Billy conveyed his hopes for the future:
“Hopefully in the future I can be a more useful person for others. From the journey that I have been through, there are indeed many people who have provided assistance to me. At least even though I can’t give a direct reply to the person, I want to be like those who are able to spread benefits to others. Also hopefully the path that I am taking now is the best mandate that Allah has given me. And I hope that the path I take will always be blessed by Allah SWT.” Uttered Billy.
Billy also conveyed his hopes for scholarship donors:
“Thank you to all donors who have donated a little of their fortune for us beneficiaries of this scholarship from YIIM. Hopefully all forms of kindness that you have given to us are considered as charity that continues to flow without stopping. Hopefully all forms of kindness will always be with you, ladies and gentlemen.”
