Panut Panuju (50 Years) most known as Mr. Panut is one of the alumni of the vehicle steam washing training held by the Foundation of Inspiration for Indonesia Development or known as Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT) in the year of 2023. This training is one of the community’s economic empowerment programs which aims to make society increase the economy individually and in groups.
This program is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS/Sustainable Development Goals) which SDGS No. 1 regarding on eradicating poverty and number 10 ending inequality. Mr. Panut is an inmates of the Correctional Center (BAPAS) I Malang. He has two children who are now married and live independently. Currently, Pak Panut lives alone with his wife at Griya Abhiparaya BAPAS Malang.
Before serving his sentence, Pak Panut worked as a farmer and odd worker. He did everything to support his wife and children even though his income was not fixed every day. Looking for a Post-Free Job from Detention After he has served a 10-month prison term and is released from detention in 2021, Mr. Panut has been released on parole for 5 months. He didn’t have a job at that time. To empower the inmates, Pak Panut was offered a job by BAPAS Malang as a caretaker at Griya Abhiparaya. Currently has been keeping for 1 year. Mr. Panut immediately accepted the offer and he lived alone with his wife at Griya Abhiparaya.
When he be a guard there his income was IDR 1,000,000. Mr. Panut is always grateful, whatever income he receives as long as it able to support he and his wife. “Alhamdulillah, the most important thing is that I am grateful with my own income. Hopefully in the future there will be more decent income.” Panut said. The Beginning of Opening a Vehicle Steam Washing Business When YIIM and INSIGHT held a vehicle steam washing training at BAPAS Malang, Panut was invited to take part in the training. He was very enthusiastic to take part in the training.
By participating in vehicle steam washing training, he hopes to be able to improve his abilities and be able to increase income from this ability. “By participating in this training, I can add experience and knowledge. I feel that steam washing this vehicle can be a job and support my daily needs.” Panut said. After the training was completed, BAPAS Malang received business assistance in the form of a vehicle steam washing machine from YIIM and INSIGHT. Thanks to this assistance, Mr Panut was given the opportunity by BAPAS Malang to open a steam washing business in front of Griya Abhiparaya.
Mr. Panut is very enthusiastic about running this business. Currently the business has been running for two months. The price for the vehicle steam washing service is IDR 10,000 for motorbikes and IDR 25,000 for cars. In a day he washes 1-2 vehicles. Mr. Panut also put up a promotion for his business, for 10 times washing a vehicle, you will get 1 time free washing.
The opening hours of this business are from morning to evening. Initially, Panut went into this business. There were several obstacles faced by Panut. However, after the passage of time, Mr. Panut was finally able to overcome these obstacles. “But every day I always practice so that my abilities improve. The important thing is that I continue to persevere because I seek customer satisfaction which is prioritized first.” Panut said.
In the first month, Mr Panut earned a gross income of IDR 600,000. From each income, 50% for Mr Panut and 50% for business needs. He was very happy because the results of his business could be used for his and his wife’s daily needs. By running this vehicle steam washing business, Panut hopes that this business will continue and one day he wants to add a branch to this vehicle steam washing business. “In my opinion, steam washing here is snow steam cleaning and tire patching. Here the opportunity is great because of the strategic position of the place.
