Siti Mulyati (52 years) or known as Mrs. Siti is an alumni of the cooking training held by The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development/Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT) in the year of 2019. This training is one of the community empowerment programs that aims to prosper community economy. This training is in line with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs Number 1 regarding on ending poverty and SDGs Number 2 regarding on ending hunger.
Currently Mrs. Siti stays with her husband and a daughter in a house in the Gandaria area, South Jakarta. Her husband is currently actively giving tausiah or Friday preaching. Previously, he worked as a security guard in a townhouse, however he was sent home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mrs. Siti’s Occupation Becoming an Entrepreneur in the Culinary Field and a Kindergarten Teacher
Before attending the training to now, her occupation is be a kindergarten teacher and running a culinary business in the name “Dapur Arabia”. This business has been run by Mrs. Siti since 2018. The food varies, including white rice and side dishes IDR 25,000/box, chicken kebuli rice IDR 35,000/box. Other than selling rice her income also comes from helping her husband selling honey and dates.
Motivation to start this business is because she likes to cook and was taught by her niece to learn how to make kebuli rice. Not only that, according to Mrs. Siti there is an opportunity to open a business in her home area.
“Initially I was taught by my niece and my hobby is cooking. Also kebuli rice is very rare in my area.” Her conveyed.
The business marketing is via Whatsapp and assisted by her husband and daughter. Mrs. Siti used to get orders for recitation events, birthdays of the Prophet, and Friday blessings.
Putting Training Results into Practice For Families
Mrs. Siti took part in YIIM’s cooking training with INSIGHT in the year of 2019. She took part in the cooking training based on information from one of her friends. Due to her interest in learning a new menu, she finally signed up for the training. She feels that participating in the training can broaden his knowledge in the culinary world, especially in the field of cakes. After attending this training, she understands more about how to make donuts and brownies. With the knowledge gained from the training she practices it for her family.
“From yesterday’s training, I now know how to make donuts and brownies. During the training, the chef directly taught it. Now I often make donuts or brownies for my family. If my family asks for it, then I make it.” She said.
YIIM and INSIGHT Help Increase Mrs. Siti’s Business Income in the Month of Ramadan
In the month of Ramadan in the year of 2023 Mrs. Siti also supports the Humane and Religious Social Program organized by YIIM and INSIGHT to provide iftar packages. Siti made 110 iftar packages for assistance given to orphans in various regions. One of the programs can be seen in Spreading Ramadhan Inspiration: Ramadan Gift Package Aid and Compensation for Orphans at the Intifa Ikhwaniyah Orphanage – Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Pembangunan (yiim.or.id).
With her participation in the Ramadhan YIIM and INSIGHT programs, it can help increase income after experiencing a decrease in income during the Covid-19 pandemic and help promote Mrs. Siti’s business. Mrs. Siti hopes that in the future the business will run smoothly without any problems and will continue to progress until it is successful.
