Mr. Bambang Setiaji (41 years old) or often called Mr. Bambang is one of the alumni of the AC service and cleaning training organized by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun / The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT) in the year 2020. This program is a form of support from INSIGHT and YIIM for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs Number 1 concerning Ending Poverty and SDGs Number 2 Preventing Hunger.

This man from Jakarta lives with his wife and five children in the Depok area in a simple rented house. Prior to joining the training, Mr. Bambang had worked as a construction worker for a year with uncertain income.

Starting from an interest to becoming a source of income

Mr. Bambang was discovering the cleaning and AC services training when he got the information from his friend who saw an advertisement in the form of a cleaning and AC services training flyer held by YIIM and INSIGHT on Instagram. Hearing this information, he was interested. By a chance he is fond of engineering and construction tools. Mr. Bambang immediately registered for the training and finally had the opportunity to take part in the free 3 days training which was held at the YIIM office in the Gran Wijaya building, South Jakarta.

After attending the training, Mr. Bambang was selected as one of the participants who received business assistance for cleaning and AC services equipment from YIIM and INSIGHT. The tools provided consist of AC tools, ladders, steamers, hoses, screwdrivers, wrenches, and manifolds. He also felt happy to get help and found it very useful.

“Alhamdulillah, it is useful, so we can find sustenance from it. More glad like that. So we were given the fishing rod and the hook, we just have to look for it.”

After Mr. Bambang got the assistances, he immediately opened an AC cleaning service, repair services, washing machine services, refrigerator services with the name “PANCA PUTRI AC”. He started his own business. However, if he needs team support, he will ask the team support from fellow alumni of the cleaning and AC services training who are domiciled or live close by and are not busy handling cleaning and AC services.

In running an AC technician services business, Mr. Bambang does marketing from person to person. He does this job from morning to evening. Sometimes if there is an unfinished problem, he does it until the evening.

Mr. Bambang’s customers are mostly domiciled in Depok. However, from person to person marketing, his customers have expanded to the Jakarta area. Within a month, Mr. Bambang’s customers are around 20 to 25 customers. He charges various services. For the market price of the air conditioner, it varies, for the air conditioner with -1 PK, it costs IDR. 75,000 and for 1.5-2 PK, it costs IDR. 85,000. For services fees, the price is adjusted to the damage.

Income is increasing

The income received by Mr. Bambang for a month is IDR. 3,000,000. If the customer just a few, the income received is below IDR. 3,000,000. For his friend who helps, he divides in half with his friend. For example, the income received in a day is IDR.225,000. His friend gets IDR. 100,000 and Mr. Bambang gets IDR. 125,000.

Even though Mr. Bambang is already being an AC technician, sometimes in his spare time he also works as a daily construction worker. The work was only carried out when he has a few of customers. He goes with his friend who is also a construction worker.

Mr. Bambang is grateful, by participating in the cleaning and AC services training held by YIIM and INSIGHT, he gained knowledge of refrigerant that had never been learnt before. By participating in this training, Mr. Bambang gets additional sustenance to finance his family’s daily needs. Mr. Bambang hopes that this business can be developed by marketing through social media thus more and more customers can be handled.
