Yulianti (38 years old) or familiar as Yuli is one of the alumni of the baking/cooking training held by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun or known as the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) and Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT) in the 2022 program year. This training is one of the community’s economic empowerment programs that aims to create an independent economy for underprivileged communities. This program is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 1 regarding on eradicating poverty and number 10 regarding on ending inequality.
Yuli is a housewife with three children. Currently, Yuli lives in a rented house in the Petamburan area, Central Jakarta with her husband and ther children. Her husband currently works as an online motorcycle taxi.
Running a Business to Help Her Husband
Yuli is currently running a nasi uduk (uduk rice) business under the name “Warung Nasi Uduk & Ayam Bakar Po Yulay”. This business has been run by Yuli since 2019. Before running the business, Yuli worked as an SPG (Sales Promotion Girl). However, Yuli decided to quit because she wanted to open a business so she could take care of her children and help her husband.
“I decided to start a business because I wanted to help my husband. Continue to provide for the needs of children school.”
This business is run by Yuli every Monday to Friday in front of her rented house. In the morning, Yuli sells nasi uduk, which sells for IDR 12,000/pack, with various kinds of fried foods. Then during the day and evening Yuli sells chickens at a price of IDR 14,000/piece. Not only selling in front of the rented house, Yuli also has online shops such as Gofood to expand her sales. Net income from the business run by Yuli every day is around IDR 150,000 to IDR 200,000.
Increase Knowledge From attending Training
The first time Yuli got information about a cooking training held by YIIM and INSIGHT was from a WhatsApp group. Without lingering, Yuli immediately registered herself to take part in the training. Yuli feels that participating in the training can inctrease new knowledge and experience in the culinary field.
After attending the training, Yuli tried to practice the menu taught during the training. Even though she is still learning, she does not rule out the possibility that the menu will be sold by her later and add to the menu in her business.
Take Part in Social Programs
Apart from selling nasi uduk and chicken, Yuli often gets orders for nasi box for various events such as tahlilan, recitation events, and others. One of them is rice boxes order for YIIM’s “Spread Inspiration Ramadhan” program in the year of 2023 (Spread Inspiration Ramadhan: Iftar Package Assistance for Residents of the Railroad Area at the Al-Istiqomah Mosque, Pejompongan, Bendungan Hilir, Tanah Abang – the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (yiim.or.id)). To fulfill orders in large quantities, sometimes Yuli hires one person to help herself cook.
Yuli hopes that in the future her business will grow and have branches to improve her family’s economy.
