Based on the report of the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on July 6, 2022, tens of millions of Indonesians are still experiencing malnutrition. Indonesia itself is listed as a country with the highest number of malnourished people in the Southeast Asian region. According to the FAO, undernourishment is a condition in which a person’s daily food consumption does not meet the standard of energy requirements for a healthy life.
Every January 25, Indonesian people commemorate National Nutrition Day (HGN). HGN is a momentum to raise public awareness and concern for the importance of implementing balanced nutrition as an effort to realize better quality public health. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemkes RI) takes the theme of National Nutrition Day 2023 is Animal Protein Prevents Stunting. The HGN 2023 theme is an invitation to the public to prevent stunting in growing children.
On National Nutrition Day 2023, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun or known as the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) and Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT) also support and are involved in efforts to monitor and increase the adequacy and balance of good nutrition for children to avoid stunting through economic empowerment for fishermen residents through healthy food, culinary training and health check up for stunting children and pregnant women.
This is also to support one of the priority projects of the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) in the health sector, namely accelerating the improvement of community nutrition with a focus on reducing stunting. In addition, it is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDGs number 1 on ending poverty in all forms and everywhere, SDGs number 2 on hunger, achieving food security and good nutrition, SDGs number 3 on health, namely ensuring a healthy life, healthy and improve health/well-being at all ages and SDGs number 17 regarding partnerships to achieve goals.
In the momentum of the 2023 national nutrition and food day, YIIM is working with Usaha Indonesia Advisory Company and Digital Sehat Indonesia Company. YIIM provided sponsorship support in the Baduy Stunting Alleviation Collaboration Action and the Inauguration of RSUI Telemonitoring. The follow-up activity to the Stunting collaboration is located at SDN 2 Bojong Menteng (State Elementry School), Ciboleger Village, Bojong Menteng, Leuwidamar District, Lebak Regency, Banten Province. This activity took place on Saturday, January 7 2023. The Baduy Stunting Alleviation Collaborative Action included the symbolic handover of the USG tool, TBB. Then examination of children such as measuring height and measuring weight using digital scales. A total of 14 children have been examined.
The Stunting Baseline Project activity in Baduy is a follow-up activity following directions from Minister of Health, Mr Budi G. Sadikin regarding the challenge of making services, assisted by supervision of RSUI on the Border of Outer Baduy and Inner Baduy, Banten, to be precise in the Binong Nangerang Health Center area to carry out more testing further the validity of Telemedicine tools in the field which have the character of remote areas, as well as understanding the response from patients and the response of the indigenous social environment of the local community.
Through collaborative actions to eradicate Baduy stunting. It is expected that this activity can implement a stunting reduction model that is right on target, so that it is expected to be able to formulate and create a National Scale Up strategy for handling integrated health and holistic services related to stunting which must be carried out from 3 years oldo. With the use of telemedicine, especially telemonitoring (tele-obsgyn, USG, tele-consultation, and tele-anthropometry), we can obtain valid primary data for level one and level two health facilities which are national references.
The specific objectives of this activity are also to reduce the case of malnutrition, provide optimal nutritional health examination services for Baduy residents and their surroundings, and provide optimal and maximum growth and development accompanied by emotional, social and physical abilities that are ready to learn. as well as being able to innovate and compete at the global level for children in Baduy.
Community Empowerment Through Animal Protein Healthy Food Cooking Training
In addition, to conduct stunting prevention through health checks. YIIM is supported by INSIGHT on June 25 2022 through the Community Empowerment Program. YIIM and INSIGHT held training on cooking healthy processed seafood for mothers in the coastal area of Kelapa Island, Thousand Islands. This cooking training activity is a form of increasing the standard of living of people in the coast and educating them about the benefits of consuming fish.
This cooking training was attended by 17 mothers from Kelapa Island, Thousand Islands. Cooking training was held to make seafood menus more attractive for children’s consumption. The menu such as frozen food fish in a form of nuggets. Many research conclude that consuming fish regularly can provide health benefits for the body. Fish has high essential nutrients, low cholesterol, fish contains high vitamin D for calcium absorption for bone health and growth. The nutritional benefits of fish are of course very good, especially for children in their infancy.
With adequate and balanced nutrition, the health quality will be better maintained, thus the impact on improving the quality of human resources is more optimal.
