Izzul Maromi (19 years old) or known as Izzul is one of the scholarship beneficiary from Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun / The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT). He is currently 2nd semester student majoring in management. In the previous semester, Izzul got a good Grade Point Average (GPA) around 3.66.
This scholarship program is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDGs Number 4 concerning Quality Education.
Izzul is the only child from a below middle class family, he was born in Sumenep. His father occupation is a sesasional rice and tobacco farmer and helped by his wife. They live in a village which occupied by their big family. The environment also brings positive energy and most of the residents are undergraduate graduates.
Side Job During School
While in grade 12, Izzul taught as a tutor at Ganesha Operations. He was teaching subjects of chemistry, physics, and mathematics. He got a job as a tutor from one of his teachers, after Izzul won the Chemistry Olympic. Izzul also taught high school students class 10 to 12. Every month, he earnt a free income ranging from IDR 300,000 to IDR 400,000. Sometimes Izzul also got tips money from students’ parents. However, after Izzul entered college, he did not continue his teaching job.
The Beginning Towards College
After Izzul graduated in 2021, he immediately looked for a college. The reason for going to college in order to delighting his parents, increasing insights, and desiring to find new experiences in college aim to achieve his goals.
Izzul had previously been accepted into a college. However, due to the distance and he is an only child, his parents suggest to look for a college that was close to their area. One time, Izzul received information from someone about a quality campus in his area and there were many scholarships, namely the University of Bahaudin Mudhary Madura (UNIBA). Finally, he tried to register himself using the Interest and Ability Tracking (PMDK) or report cards.
The reason for applying for a scholarship is because he has desire to relieve his parents and to stimulate the spirit of learning. After waiting for about a week, Izzul was finally accepted and got a full scholarship. His parents were certainly delighted and proud. This scholarship able to decrease the burden of his parents realizing Izzul comes from a middle to lower economic family.
During college, Izzul lives with his parents since the distance between their house and campus was quite close. The estimated time from home to campus is only 15-20 minutes if go by motorbike.
On-Campus and Off-Campus Activities
Izzul is actively involved in the community on campus, namely the Student Entrepreneurial Youth (WIMBAR) UNIBA. This community teaches how to develop a sharing business among members. In this community, Izzul as an administrator in the field of marketing.
Off campus, Izzul joins the modeling community. Since the 3rd grade of junior high school he has joined the modeling community. At first Izzul was a shy and insecure figure. In the past, he often accompanied his cousin who is also a model. At that time, the photographer offered Izzul to be a model. In the end Izzul tried and he liked it, then he was offered to cooperate.
Obstacles Are Not Obstacles During Lectures
During college, Izzul also had a problem, which he did not having a laptop. Even though there are limited learning tools, Izzul still tries to do his homework using a cellphone and also borrowing a laptop from other family members.
In the future, Izzul hopes to become a better person, always devoted to his parents, and beneficial for others with the knowledge he has gained.
Izzul also expressed wishes for YIIM and INSIGHT:
“I wish YIIM and INSIGHT success always, because with YIIM and INSIGHT, you can realize the dreams of young people out there, who are constrained in the economic field. Stay prosperous and useful to many people.”
