Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun/the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) is supported by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the Limited Liability Company Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) through one of its priority programs, namely community empowerment in the form of Social Entrepreneurship Training for disadvantaged communities and pre-prosperous communities creates more independent small entrepreneurs.
The Social Entrepreneurship Training is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Number 1 to end poverty in all its forms and SDGs Number 10 to end inequality.
On this occasion, YIIM and INSIGHT presented a profile of the beneficiary of one of the Barber Entrepreneur Class alumni, namely Mr. Nur Bintang (25) or commonly called Bintang.
Bintang is one of the alumni of the barber entrepreneurship training held by YIIM and INSIGHT batch 1 in the year of 2020. Bintang previously had a job by selling food siomay but had to go out of business due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. After his father passed away, Bintang has to support his family to sufficient the daily needs of his mother and two younger siblings who are still in school. His mother who is a farmer however the result of farming is insufficient to feed the family.
Prior to joining the barber training, Bintang the young man from Purbalingga Regency, Central Java province did not have a job and migrated to Jakarta to look for better job and opportunity. With the limited conditions in Jakarta, he did not give up to change his life, With the information from a friend about the barber class training held by YIIM and INSIGHT, Bintang then took part in the training, until he passed the internship program at the Inspiration Barbershop with high enthusiasm.
During the internship program, Bintang set aside and was able to save the money from his haircut at the Barber Inspiration to rent a place in his village to run a a small schale entrepreneurship haircut service business. Bintang then submitted a proposal to YIIM and INSIGHT and received a barbershop equipment grant to open a barbershop business in his hometown under the business name “BINTANG BARBERSHOP” in Karangpucung, Kartanegara, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java.
Every day Bintang helps his mother with farm before opening his barber. He opens a barbershop business from 10:00 am to 08:00 pm. In a day, Bintang is able to shave the hair of 5 customers and during holidays he can shave 15-20 people. In a month he is able to get a turnover of around Rp. 1,500,000 (one million five hundred thousand rupiah) to the range of Rp. 2,000,000 (two million rupiah).
Over time, Bintang began to develop his business by re-honing his ability to learn entrepreneurial management with Millennial Barbershop located in Karawang. He also did this to learn how to manage a barber business and also to expand the network of fellow barbershop entrepreneurs.
In the midst of the current Covid-19 pandemic, it is certainly not easy for Bintang to manage a barbershop business. But he does not give up and still continue to learn to hone his skills in shaving hair. During pandemic Covid 19, Bintang also prioritizes health protocols, such as wearing masks, gloves, and disinfectant sprays to clean barber equipment that is always used.
At the moment Bintang is grateful to be able to support his family’s economy and has the main income from his barbershop business. Bintang is committed to advancing the barbershop business that is being pioneered so that it can help others, share knowledge and share benefits are values and principles that are firmly held by Bintang together with other alumni of Barbershop training program. These values and principles were initiated by YIIM and INSIGHT throughout the empowerment process to mentoring business processes initiated by alumni. In addition, he also hopes to spread inspiration and provide benefits to youth in his village area.
Hopefully more Micro small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will be created from YIIM’s economic empowerment program along with INSIGHT. Through this program, YIIM is very open to anyone who wants to support social and humanity programs, one of which is the community empowerment program.
Inspiration Greetings!
