UNODC Representative Visits YIIM Office to See and Exchange Experiences of Entrepreneurship Empowerment of Correctional Inmates

Jakarta – On Thursday 13 January 2022 Collie F. Brown as UNODC Indonesia Country Manager and Liaison to ASEAN, paid a visit to the office of the office of the Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) in order to discuss and see the process of empowering the entrepreneurial economy for correctional inmates that has been run by the YIIM since 2018. He also invited other UNODC staff, including Mrs. Avezia Ariane and Mr. Kristian Patrasio.

The YIIM was represented by Mr. Chrisbiantoro as a Chairman of the Foundation and staff of the Foundation as well as alumni of social entrepreneurship training from former correctional inmates who are clients of the Correctional Center (BAPAS Central Jakarta) who are successful entrepreneurs and have careers in their fields. Among the Foundation staff who attended were Mr. Achmad Fanani Rosyidi and Mrs. Ratih Puspita.

The alumni who attended included Mr. Alpijar Ramadhani (2020 barista training alumnus/owner of the roemah coffee front business), Mr. Bambang Purbowo (2020 barista training alumni/owner of the Bali Lore Coffee business), Mr. Gusti Darmawan (barber/barberman training alumni at the Inspiration Barbershop), and Mr. Humam Hasan (2018 barista training alumnus/bar head of Inspirasi Coffee Shop).

During the visit, Mr. Collie visited the Inspirasi barbershop which located in the 2nd floor of the Foundation’s office building as well as the Inspirasi coffee shop which was on the second floor while tasting coffee made by barista alumni from former inmates.

While sitting relaxed accompanied by the host, Mr. Collie said, “I would like to thank Mr. Chrisbiantoro for the warm welcome. After going around reviewing Inspirasi barbershops and Inspirasi coffee shops, I see YIIM has great potential going forward and very inspiring entrepreneurial programs. Incidentally, we are currently accompanying ex-terrorist convicts in Malang, which is almost similar to the program run by YIIM. Hopefully with this meeting we can produce a useful collaboration.”

Mr. Chrisbiantoro also said, “We thank you and are honored to have Mr. Collie Brown as the leader of UNODC come to our office. Of course, the programs that we carry out are always grounded in the sustainable development goals that have been proclaimed by the United Nations. Hopefully with this gathering, a useful follow-up plan will be created.”

In this meeting, YIIM and UNODC produced an activity plan to organize a softskill and hardskill social entrepreneurship training program for ex-terrorist convicts.

Previously, YIIM had held a joint activity with UNODC and the Indonesian Witness and Victim Protection Agency to organize Social Entrepreneurship Training for Coffee Barista and Frozen Food skills for survivors of terrorism crime victims both online and offline on 9-11 December and 15-17 December 2021. , with a total of 42 participants from Bali, Poso, Palu, Surabaya, Malang, and Purwakarta.

Where the program is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) numbers 1, 2, 8, 10, 16 and 17 which have been proclaimed by the government into Presidential Regulation Number 59 of 2017 concerning Implementation of the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
