RIKI RAMDANI: alumni of barista training never tired for innovating

In order to ensure distribution of better economic development, the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development or known Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), a national nonprofit organization, along with its main partner the Limited Liability Company (PT) Insight Investments Management, through social fund and social responsibility, provide training in a form of social entrepreneurship program. In particular training for vulnarable groups, unemployed, poor and below middle class as well as diffable groups.

The program is provided by YIIM and INSIGHT to support implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in particular SDGs Number 1 on End Poverty. The program has resulted various alumni, one of which are Riki Ramdani.

Dream for Independent Economy

Riki Ramdani received information on entrepreneurship training at the right time because he has no job and no income. After receiving termination of employment from his previous office due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Riki tries various things to continue his life.

Being the sixth child of seven siblings does not necessarily make him always stand idly by his brothers. Riki’s dream to be independent and also help his family who incidentally comes from a pre-prosperous family is something he always holds in his life.

After completing the training in 2019, Riki was selected to undergo an internship at Kopi Inspirasi. Not only expanding his experience in the field of coffee blending, together with friends from Kopi Inspirasi and YIIM, Riki has also been an assistant trainer for entrepreneurship training and volunteer under the program of YIIM.

Starting a career as a barista

After completing his internship at Kopi Inspirasi, Riki had the desire to start a coffee business. However, some situations make him have to choose between opening a business or working as a barista first to strengthen his knowledge and experiences.

Bringin knowledge and experiences during internship at the Kopi Inspirasi by YIIM, Riki Ramdani decided to work first at someone else’s cafe. This he did to continue to explore knowledge and experience. He already had several entrepreneurial ideas, but he decided to keep exploring new knowledge and more experience to strengthen his plan to open his own coffee shop.

Currently, Riki is working to be a barista at the coffee shop “BLAU Eatery & Coffee” located on Jl. Elegant Midrib 1 QA2/7, Kelapa Gading Barat, North Jakarta. Moreover, Riki also has side job as a freelancer from several jobs offered by his friends, Riki now have an income of 4-5 million rupiah per month.

Independent economy can certainly be achieved in various ways. It is possible for anyone who wants to try, and continue to explore the knowledge they have.
