LPSK RI, UNODC, and YIIM Held Social Entrepreneurship Training for Coffee Baristas and Frozen Food “Cooking” for Survivors of Crime of Terrorism

Jakarta – The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (Lembaga Perlindungan Saksi dan Korban) of the Republic of Indonesia, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun / the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) held a social entrepreneurship training for Coffee Barista and Frozen Food “Cooking” skills for the survivors under the protection of the witness and victim protection agency (LPSK).

The beneficiaries of this program are specifically for people who have a survivor background and are protected by LPSK for terrorism crimes and come from various regions such as Bali, Poso, Palu, Jakarta, and Surabaya. This program is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) numbers 1, 2, 8, 10, 16 and 17 which have been proclaimed by the government as Presidential Regulation Number 59 of 2017 concerning Implementation of the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.

This 2 (two) skills training was held in 2 stages, namely online and offline training with a total of 50 participants.

The online training was held on Thursday-Friday, 9-11 December 2021, where the 50 participants consist of 20 barista training participants and 30 frozen food training participants. A week before the online training begins, participants are gathered in WhatsApp groups for the purpose of assessing and equipping participants to be ready when the training is held.

From the online training, participants are selected by the committee to take part in offline training. From the selection process the 30 best participants were selected to take part in offline training, each barista and frozen food training total 15 participants for 3 (days) from 15-17 December 2021 which was held at the RI LPSK Building, Jalan Raya Bogor KM 24, Number 47- 49, RT 06/ RW 01, Susukan, Ciracas, East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta.

The barista and frozen food social entrepreneurship training event started with the opening ceremony on Wednesday 15 December 2021 at the RI LPSK hall building which was attended directly by the Deputy Chair of the RI LPSK, Dr. Maneger Nasution, M.H., M.A.; Chairman of YIIM, Chrisbiantoro S.H., LL.M; and UNODC Indonesia Deputy Country Manager/AML-CFT Advisor, Mrs. Zoelda Anderton.

The ceremonial event was opened directly with remarks by Mrs. Zoelda saying “Survivors of the victims of criminal acts of terrorism always face quite difficult things, especially during the recovery process. This training is a form of UNODC’s efforts to support survivors, so they can regain their rights and meet their needs independently. We are relentlessly committed to supporting the fulfilment of the rights and needs of survivors. We also hope that this training does not stop here and we are waiting for the results of the benefits of this training.”

The next speech by Mr. Maneger said “Thank you to the sheltered victims who have now become strong survivors. Participants varied from various regions from Bali, Sulawesi, Surabaya, and Jakarta. This training program is a series of events from the international day to honour the victims of terrorism in collaboration with UNODC since August 2021. We hope this event is the first step in a psychosocial series with UNODC and YIIM to build independent entrepreneurs for the recovery of victims.”

Finally, Mr. Chrisbiantoro said “One of our prime program is community economic empowerment, especially cooking skills and coffee barista skills. One of our beneficiaries are Mr and Mrs of the survivors and their families under the protection of LPSK. We hope that they will become part of the subject of this country’s development and the subject of change in the family environment. I congratulate Mr and Mrs on being selected to take part in the training, take advantage of this opportunity to the fullest.”

After this training program, LPSK, UNODC, and YIIM are planned to strengthen participants with entrepreneurial management soft skills through training. The selected survivors will also be given an internship opportunity for two weeks at the Inspirasi Coffee Shop to be trained as a professional barista as well as will be provided capital assistance for barista business equipment and frozen food. Thus the survivors will be able to start their own coffee shop businesses.
