Mrs. Sainah (52), a former inmates who has completed the mandatory reporting period at the Central Jakarta Correctional Center (BAPAS), in the beginning she was not sure of what her going to do after she finished undergoing the coaching period at BAPAS, this condition required Sainah to look for new competencies and skills to be able to maintain life after serving a period of sentence and coaching.
Luckily, she got information about the entrepreneurship training program organized by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun or known as The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) regarding barista, culinary and hydroponic training from one of the Community Counsellors (PK) which she discovered while undergoing coaching as a correctional inmates. Sainah decided to join the culinary program because she already has basic knowledge in cooking. She is lucky to be selected as one of the training participants and received business assistance tools.
The program held by YIIM in cooperation with Pertamina Training and Consulting Company (PTC) has created many new entrepreneurs in the culinary sector. This program is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 1, namely Eradicating Poverty, in which YIIM and PTC are committed to continuing to assist and encourage training alumni to become independent by pioneering and developing their businesses.
Sainah was no exception, through the assistance provided by YIIM and PTC in the form of a freezer machine and other cooking tools, she encouraged to opens a frozen food business “Bengkel Perut Ibu Iin”. Her business is in the form of selling fried chicken and various kinds of packages of fried rice and fish at her home brings a profit of IDR. 50,000 (fifty thousand rupiah) to IDR. 100,000 (one hundred thousand rupiah) in a day. In addition to selling directly from home, Sainah has also expanded her business reach by opening an online store through the GoFood and GrabFood applications. The business that she runs is clear evidence of the benefits of the culinary training she has attended.
When asked what made Sainah keep move forward, she conveyed, “The existence of YIIM and this culinary program was very memorable for me, who had just returned from prison, where I had to start all over again from zero. Having no skills and backups, this training opened my mind to be able to having business.”
YIIM and PTC’s support will continue to reduce poverty and accelerate the goals of the SDGs. It is hoped that through the YIIM training program supported by PTC, it will continue to establish new entrepreneurs like Sainah for the progress of the Indonesian economy.
Inspiration Greetings!
