Dwi Emitasari or commonly called Mrs. Dwi (40 years old) is one of the alumni of the culinary training (Baking Class) organized by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun or known as the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT) in the year of 2020. This training program is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Number 1 regarding on ending poverty.
Mrs. Dwi currently lives with her parents and family in a house in the Cempaka Warna area. Mrs. Dwi has 3 children who are currently 11th grade of high school, 5th grade of elementary school, and the last one is 9 months old. Her husband is currently working odd jobs.
Her journey of earn a living
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, she was a driver motorcycle taxi to pick up school children. Every day, she took 4 children to school at different hours. Every month, she was earning an income of approximately IDR. 800,000 from this work. She also had run a burger and takoyaki business in her house since 2015. But she has stopped since two years ago due to frequent illness.
However, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Mrs. Dwi did not get any income because of school system has changed to online and there was no work for her to pick up the children. Eventually, during the Covid-19 pandemic, her family cost of living was financed by her mother. Fortunately, her children have received KJP, thus there is a waiver for their child’s school fees.
The Beginning of a Culinary Business Journey
To improve her ability to cook, she finally tried to take part in the cooking training held by YIIM and INSIGHT at Wisma Maros. This training makes her gain new knowledge and can be used to cook an additional menu at her mother’s catering.
After attending the training, Mrs. Dwi had the opportunity to get business assistance in the form of a stove. She was very grateful because with that assistance she can help her mother running her catering business.
Her mother’s business has been going on for a long time. She always takes part every time there is an order. Not only helping during the cooking process, Mrs. Dwi also takes part on promoting the catering. The average catering customer ordering catering is set at IDR 25,000/pcs. The catering sales system is custom to the needs of the customer, how much is needed with a budget price according to consumer demand. Mrs. Dwi once received a maximum order of 1000 pcs.
Apart from helping her mother’s catering business, Mrs. Dwi also helps her father sell at night near Wisma Maros. Her father currently sells Nasi Goreng under the name Nasi Goreng Mangkok by Pakde Mino. This business has been running since 40 years ago. She takes part to help her father while selling. However, since she had a baby, she did not continue to help her father.
Mrs. Dwi hopes that in the future she can continue her mother’s catering business and can expand her catering business such as to offices.
