Muhammad Rajib Rakatirta or commonly called Rajib is one of the educational scholarship grantee provided by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun/The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company (INSIGHT) in the year of 2016. Rajib is an alumni of the University of Indonesia (UI) majoring in Communication, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP UI).

Rajib is the eldest of two children. He currently lives with his family in the Sawangan area, Depok. His father is an administrative officer at the University of Indonesia and his mother is a housewife.

His Efforts to Take Scholarships in order to Ease Parent’s burden

Since Rajib was in elementary school (SD) to high school (SMU), he always received a scholarship. This scholarship is very helpful to ease the burden on his parents. While in college, his father always gave him advise to apply for a scholarship. He also looks for scholarships through the UI website which contains information about various kinds of scholarships.

While he was looking at the campus website, there were inspirational scholarships from INSIGHT and YIIM. Eventually, Rajib immediately tried to register himself for a scholarship. The scholarship application process is to include files such as a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) and training certificates or training in addition to academic activities. After waiting for a while, Rajib finally got a scholarship starting from semester 3 until he graduated. Rajib said:

“When I received it, I was really happy because apart from helping my parents, I got pocket money. It is rare for scholarships to get pocket money.”

In and out Campus Activities

During his studies, Rajib was also actively involved in organizations such as BEM FISIP. In the first year he became the administrator of BEM as a staff of the scientific department, and in the second year he was appointed head of the department in the BEM structure. Apart from being active in BEM, Rajib is also active in the theater, several times he has participated in theatre performances at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM).

In the first year he got the opportunity to become a scriptwriter and director. Then the following year, he was increasingly active to become a scriptwriter. He also participated in several writing competitions on campus. Rajib also began to participate in various off-campus activities such as attending the Pandora theatre which he still being active until now.

When he received a scholarship from INSIGHT and YIIM, Rajib was selected to join a leadership camp program facilitated by YIIM and INSIGHT. In addition, in 2019 he also participated as YIIM volunteer in social service events in Baduy. It did not stop there, Rajib also had the opportunity to become a volunteer at YIIM and eventually in the year of 2020 he was appointed as a staff in charge of documentation and digital campaigns on YIIM’s social media. While employed at YIIM, he is assiduously in creating various content to promote work programs and achievements from various activities held by YIIM with partners, which one of them is Insight Investments Management Company as the main partner.

The Journey to Chase a Dream

Rajib completed his 4-year education because of scholarships from YIIM and Insight with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.49 with the title of thesis:

 “The process of identity formation in the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game community “Osiris Duelist”.

After graduating, he wants to realize his childhood goals and dreams. Since he was in elementary school, Rajib has dreamed of becoming a writer and researcher. Initially, as a child he was given a letter puzzle by his parents. The letter puzzle was used to learn to read. From then on, Rajib began to like reading. His father often brings books from the UI library, such as invention books. In the past, his father wanted to become a journalist, but he failed. It made his father wanted to teach Rajib to read from an early age.

“When I was little, I went for a walk with my friends and when I got home I was told to make a report. The report in the form of a narrative is more like a story. From there, I started to love writing.”

In the year of 2019, during the final semester Rajib tried to take part in an internship at an educational start-up company in the digital marketing department. However, when he was only one month into his internship, Rajib was appointed as a permanent employee. He ended up working at the company but only for 8 months due to chase his dream to become a writer.

After resigning, he received several offers to write scripts on television and play in theater. He also earns income from these activities. To increase his experience and income, Rajib also worked part time at a game cafe and worked at a creative agency called Peka.

At the beginning of 2022 he decided to looking for new experiences and decided to resign as YIIM staff, then he received an offer to become the head of script writing at Zenius Education until now at the time of this writing. He is enjoying and excited with this opportunity since this is his childhood dream job. Eventually, Rajib began his career as a chief scriptwriter. Currently he is also working on a research project.

However, even though he was not with YIIM, Rajib still helped YIIM to teach entrepreneurship classes and entrepreneurship management, one of which was carried out with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Class 1 correctional center in Malang and YIIM to provide entrepreneurial training to client as a former correctional inmates of terrorism. Rajib’s dream has finally come true with the various experiences he has gone through. In the future he wants to continue working as a scriptwriter since it is his childhood dream.
