Being part of Indonesian society, disabilities person or also called friends with disabilities have the same rights and obligations in all aspects of life, including the right to get an education and the right to get a job. (International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights).
In the year of 2021, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun or known as The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with Pertamina Training and Consulting Company (PTC) through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program conducted economic empowerment training for friends with disabilities. One of the training programs was coffee baristas.
In this program, one of the participants is from the disability community Mr. Aries Andryanto (45 years old) or commonly called Mas Aries. He is one of quadriplegic disability friend. The figure of Mas Aries and the pioneering coffee business after attending training organized by YIIM and PTC has been raised in a previous article and can be accessed on Mas Aries’ Profile. In addition, the profile of the coffee barista training that Mas Aries has participated in can be seen at YIIM training people with disabilities to become a Barista.
However, in this article will be different from the previous one, the figure of Mas Aries has develop rapidly. In addition to starting a coffee shop business from the results of barista training organized by YIIM and PTC, he has also transformed into a barista trainer among friends with disabilities.
At that time when team YIIM and PTC visited on July 1, 2022. Mas Aries was providing assistance and coffee barista training for friends with disabilities at the CAFE DKI (Indonesian Creative Disability) coffee shop located on Raya Kalisuren Street, Kalisuren, Kab. Bogor, West Java. Operational hours from 14.00 WIB – 22.00 WIB.
Mas Aries is trusted to be the coach and companion of the baristas at Cafe DKI. Cafe DKI has three baristas from disabilities friends and the three of them are still developing the skills and skills taught by Mas Aries thus they can become independent and professional baristas, therefore he is hoping there will be more baristas from friends with disabilities. Some of the menus taught by Mas Aries to the baristas at Cafe DKI include how to mix coffee, americano menu, V 60, brewed coffee, iced coffee milk, vietnam drip, palm sugar milk coffee and many other menus.
Mas Aries believes the social entrepreneurship spirit that was instilled in the training at YIIM by sharing benefits and advantages with others is still firmly held to this day. He tries to practice the spirit of social entrepreneurship to his fellow friends with disabilities to be able to open an independent business as a professional barista. He believes that friends with disabilities are capable and should not give up on the situation, even if it is possible to become a barista more than people in general.
Mas Aries conveyed, “Hopefully, what I do will inspire more people to spread the spirit of sharing benefits with others, especially friends with disabilities to move forward and be independent and creative, they must not stop or give up on circumstances.”

YIIM and PTC present programs and benefits of training programs that have succeeded in producing people like Mas Aries to support government programs related to the Sustainable Development Goals (TPB), including TPB Number 1 to prevent poverty, TPB Number 2 to Prevent Hunger and TPB Number 17 to Cooperation to Achieve Goals.
In addition, YIIM and PTC also want to strengthen the spirit contained in the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), in which Indonesia is a national party to the international agreement.
I hope that there will be more people like Mas Aries throughout the country thus Creative Disability Indonesia can truly realized and spread real benefits and inspiration.
