On 29th to 31st May 2023 the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development or known as Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company (PT INSIGHT) re-conducted a series of collaborations with the Pondok Bambu Class 1 State Detention Center (Rutan) to hold a cooking social entrepreneurship training program (Frozen Food) for imnates of Pondok Bambu Detention Center.

This activity is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 1 regarding on fighting poverty, No. 8 regarding on decent work and economic growth, and No. 17 regarding on partnerships to achieve goals.

The training was carried out at the Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center, which has the address Jalan Pahlawan Revolusi No 38, RT 04/RW 03, Pondok Bambu, Kec. Duren Sawit, City of East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta. The training agenda was held for half a day, from 09.00 WIB to 12.00 WIB.

This training activity began with opening remarks from Mr. Achmad Fanani Rosyidi as a YIIM representative. He had conveyed, “The cooking social entrepreneurship training program (Frozen Food) is a Community Empowerment Program for residents of Pondok Bambu Detention Center supported by Insight Investments Management Company (PT INSIGHT) in collaboration with the Pondok Bambu Class 1 State Detention Center (Rutan). This training aims to provide skills and benefits for assisted residents, ranging from hard skills training to soft skills training such as Entrepreneurship Management (MSME Financial Bookkeeping and Marketing Strategy) and financial literacy.”

As many as 15 participants from Rutan inmates (female inmates) attended cooking social entrepreneurship training (Frozen Food) for three days. The training participants were taught how to make various Frozen Food menus. The training material taught is the practice how to make chicken nuggets, chicken dim sum, tofu meatballs, chicken egg rolls as well as calculations for Frozen Food business and how to package food products.

Cooking social entrepreneurship training (Frozen Food) participants were divided into five groups, each group numbering three participants. Each participant gets a training module which contains recipes and how to make dishes.

Each training recipe that is taught, the instructor explains the ingredients used for making frozen food dishes. By looking at the module and listening to the instructor’s directions, the participants directly practice how to process the ingredients, starting from combining dry ingredients such as flour, pepper, salt with wet ingredients such as chicken meat, then proceed with the method of forming the food. Like the chicken dimsum menu, participants were taught how to fill the dimsum shells with the dough each group had made. After the cooking process, the participants were taught how to pack frozen food. Each participant gets a direct opportunity to practice training recipes under the direct supervision of the trainers.

During the training participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and answers to the instructor. Obstacles during concentration training that are not optimal, there are other obligations that must be fulfilled at the same time. Another obstacle is the limited training time.

It is hoped that from this training, the participants can contribute to making a variety of food menus for the assisted residents. After the sentence period, the participants can return to the community and can open a business with the provision of knowledge and mentoring assistance from YIIM and INSIGHT.

The instructors for the social entrepreneurship cooking training (Frozen Food), namely Mrs. Wanmayetty and Mrs. Susilawati Muryani Berlian, are both alumni of the cooking training held by YIIM and both of them have also succeeded in building independent businesses in the culinary field on a micro and small scale.

Mrs. Susilawati is an alumnus of a training participant with a background as an inmate of the Central Jakarta Class I Correctional Center (BAPAS Class I). The cooking knowledge that Mrs. Wanmayetty and Mrs. Susiliawati have from training at YIIM is supported by INSIGHT and one of their partners is Titan Baking Bakery Cikajang, South Jakarta. This knowledge through cooking classes is shared with the target residents of Pondok Bambu Detention Center.

On the third day, closing the series of cooking training activities, the participants received a training certificate which was handed over directly by Dewi Sondari, BC.I.P., S.An, as the Head of Class 1 Prison Pondak Bambu and Mr. Isnaeni Setiawan as PT INSIGHT’s CSR Coordinator.

As a non-profit organization, YIIM is very open to all parties who wish to support or make donations in any form. Because every donation given to YIIM will be distributed directly to the rightful beneficiaries.
