“Even though there is deficiency, I still want to move forward with the business that is currently being carried out.”
Above mentioned sentence stated by Mr. Aries Andriyanto used to continue the spirit of advancing his business.
Mr. Aries Andriyanto (45 years old) or commonly called Mr. Aries, is one of the alumni of the coffee barista social entrepreneurship training batch 3 in 2021 which was organized by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun / The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with the Pertamina Training and Consulting Company (PTC).
This program is one of the flagship programs of community empowerment intended for the underprivileged, pre-prosperous, and people with disabilities. For additional information related to coffee barista training organized by YIIM and PTC. It can be accessed at NEWS.
Mr. Aries is a father who currently lives with his wife and four children and are also a physically disabled. With his limitations, he doesn’t give up on the situation. Mr. Aries participated in various activities, starting from joining various communities to developing a coffee business that had been in interested for a long time.
Limitations Are Not an Obstacle
Mr. Aries has participated in various disability organizations to expand his connections, starting from joining the Indonesian Association of Physical Persons with Disabilities (PPDFI) in the year of 2006, the Indonesian Creative Disability Foundation (YDKI) in the year 2020, and at the Indonesian Disabled Persons Association (PPDPI) Depok in the year of 2020.
Not only organizations, Mr. Aries also participated in various trainings, one of which was coffee barista social entrepreneurship training organized by YIIM and PTC. Mr. Aries participated in this training because of his interest in coffee. Mr. Aries was also grateful because he had the opportunity to learn directly using various coffee tools.
After attending the training, Mr. Aries had the opportunity to receive business assistance provided by YIIM and PTC. The aid was used by him to build his own coffee business, namely the “warung kopi uhhuuy”.
Mr. Aries’ coffee business, namely the “warung kopi uhhuuy” continues to develop. His coffee shop located in Sawangan. There are various menu at his coffee shop, namely sachet coffee, americano, v60, brewed coffee, palm sugar iced coffee, banana iced coffee, butterscotch, root beer, and hot coffee.
The packaging used is paper cup which for hot coffee, while for cold coffee uses plastic cup with 12 oz and 14 oz sizes with cup sealer. Most of his customers are adults. The customers also give good responses for coffee that he made.
Wanting to be more serious in pursuing his business, Mr. Aries’ coffee shop has now been registered with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMK) at the sub-district level. While running the business, Mr. Aries’ turnover for a month is between IDR. 1,500,000 to IDR. 2,000,000. This income is used to support his wife and two children, who are currently still in the first and fourth grades of elementary school.
He didn’t stop there, Mr. Aries developing his business by collaborating with disabilities friends, namely Ngobat (Ngobrol Bareng Teman). The coffee sold by Mr. Aries uses coffee beans from Ngobat, because that coffee beans already have complete documents and are also halal. The coffee beans used come from various regions such as Temanggung, Cibulao, and others. The Ngobat product is the result of collaboration with Mobile Disability activities.
After the training, Mr. Aries also had the opportunity to be a speaker on RAS FM radio. The event is held on every Saturday which discusses a person with a disability who has a business and creativity. Mr. Aries shared his experiences from the start of the business to the present day.
Do not Stop Innovating
“Nowadays, we must find many ways.”
That sentence was said by Mr. Aries in order to continues looking for the latest innovations on his business. Not only in coffee shops, Mr. Aries tries to expand his business by actively participating in the bazaar. He has participated in various bazaars, such as bazaar at Gedung Sate, Bandung; bazaar at the post office Depok 1, Rambutan street for five days with Mrs. Nurul which a member of Ngobat; bazaar for ceremonial events at Evenciio Margonda’s apartment; and bazaar at the Depok Mayor’s Dekranasa Building three times a week on Wednesdays, Thursdays and for two weeks on Fridays. However, the bazaar in the mayor of Depok is currently temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, it is uncertainty to be reopen. Those activities make Mr. Aries even more enthusiastic in developing his business.
During the bazaar, Mr. Aries was assisted by his friend, Mr. Anto, who is also a person with disability, he always provides information about the bazaar and also active in UMKM in Depok. During participating in the bazaar, he was grateful that he unnecessary to paying for the stand, seeing that Mr. Aries is one of the disabilities entrepreneur. During the bazaar, Mr. Aries was always assisted by his wife after the children finished school. Mr. Aries also invited other friends to join and work together.
The spirit of Mr. Aries is endless. The next innovation made by Mas Aries and his disabilities friends is selling coffee by using motorbikes. The motorbike used by him and friends is a sidecar motorbike belonging to his friend. Currently, it has been running for a week. They are selling on the side of the road at the headquarters 2 Cilangkap of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and started selling from 3 pm until late night. Mr. Aries capable to selling 10 cups of coffee in a day.
Along with the development of thoughts, Mr. Aries and friends discussed and finally agreed to move the place to sell to the Ciganjur area, in a place owned by his brother.
“Now I want to go back to where I started. God willing, good luck in that place. Because I got a help from YIIM and PTC”
The process of moving the coffee shop owned by Mr. Aries at this time is to bring a bar table to Ciganjur. After moving to the Ciganjur area, Mr Aries plans to sell a coffee at the Andara Street morning market every Saturday and Sunday using a sidecar motorbike.
“I trying to not pay the rent. Sometimes we have to renting a place but I’ve noticed that renting a place in Ciganjur for one year is now closed. I’m trying to find a way. So I cooperate with my brother.”
Fight for a Hope
In order to run his business, Mr. Aries is willing to live separately with his wife and two children who currently live in Cipayung. Various plans have also been determined by Mr. Aries to advance his business. Starting from desiring to sell various coffees while educating about good quality coffee beans. Mr. Aries also wants to redevelop contemporary beverages such as thai tea, red velvet, and various kinds of food and also Mr. Aries wants to invite his family to playing music at his business place.
Mr. Aries wants to activate Go Food whose address has been changed and wants to enter the menu into the Toko pedia account of his nephew who is currently selling food at Tokopedia. To make transportation easier, Mr. Aries is saving money to modify a sidecar motorbike, which is estimated to cost IDR 2,500,000.
Mr. Aries hopes that in the future he will continue to develop his business. Wherever there is an opportunity, he will definitely come. Because to pick up the ball, he has to do various businesses such as bazaars and also do promotions through his friend’s YouTube.
