Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun/The Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development (YIIM) in cooperation with the Insight Investments Management Compay (INSIGHT), an investment manager who has concern for social and humanitarian issues, through corporate social responsibility programs have implemented community empowerment programs that are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs Number 1 to eradicate poverty and SDGs Number 10 to end inequality.
YIIM in cooperation with INSIGHT committed to improving the welfare of the socially disadvantaged people, one of which is former prisoners.
Mr. Ponco Sunarto (33 years old) or usually called Ponco is one of the alumni of the barista training organized by YIIM and INSIGHT in the year of 2020, before joining the barista training, Ponco was a client of the Class 1 Correctional Center of the Minister of Law and Human Rights in Central Jakarta. From the beginning he was very interested to create various types of coffee, knowing that there was a barista training from the Central Jakarta Bapas, he did not waste this opportunity.
Because of his persistence and passion to change his future life, Ponco enrolled the barista training and began from basic barista training and internship as profesional barista at Kopi Inspirasi. Due to his capability and profesionalism as barista, subsequently he is also trusted to be the head assistance of Barista at Kopi Inspirasi.
After participating in the whole series of trainings, Ponco is also active as a team of trainers for the coffee barista training program conducted by YIIM and its partners such as Victims and Witnesses Protection Agency (LPSK) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Poncho is very talented and shows seriousness and professionalism in sharing his knowledge and experience with the coffee barista trainees. With great enthusiasm, he also shared tips and business calculations so that the training participants have a complete understanding of the barista profession and the needs to open a coffee shop business.
In fact, he also became a coffee barista trainer for people with disabilities who want to learn to be a barista and open a coffee shop business.
After completing his training and internship at Kopi Inspirasi, he has now been recruited and trusted to be the Head Barista at the coffee shop “D’Agro Fine Coffee” located at Agro Building Plaza Lt. Basic, Jl. H.R Rasuna Said, Kuningan, South Jakarta.
Because of his expertise in making and blending coffee, he is able to earn an average income of around IDR 4,000,000 (four million rupiah) per month. Currently Poncho is able to support his family’s life, at first he didn’t have a job and now he is able to support his family’s economy.
Poncho also has a high social spirit, such as sharing the benefits of coffee blending knowledge that has been obtained to people who want to learn. This is also in line with the principle of social entrepreneurship training conducted by YIIM and INSIGHT, which is to create agents of change who also share knowledge and inspiration to others.
Ponco said, “Thank you to YIIM and INSIGHT for holding a barista social entrepreneurship training. Thanks to this training, I have received many benefits apart from my coffee making skills, I also have the confidence to return to the community. Hopefully my past can be a lesson and now I just want to be able to provide benefits and inspiration to many people. May YIIM and INSIGHT continue to spread kindness to people in need like me.”
As a form of contribution to the wider community, especially vulnerable groups. YIIM and INSIGHT hope that initiatives like this will continue to be carried out by entrepreneurship training alumni to provide social impact and spread benefits. This is also to support government programs to reduce poverty and accelerate the goals of the SDGs.
