In line with the agenda of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 1 regarding end poverty and SDGs Number 8 on supporting sustainable inclusive economic growth and a productive and decent workforce, the Foundation for Inspiration of Indonesia Development known in Bahasa is Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Bangunan (YIIM) in cooperation with Limiter Liability Company (PT) Insight Investments Management continue to strive to contribute to helping people in need of empowerement.
One of the main programs is to provide Coffee Barista Training Skills in the form of Social Entrepreneurship training for the poor, unemploye, former prisoners and other vulnarable groups. In this regard, Noval Prakoso, usually called Noval, is one of the alumni of the training.
Struggling Under Limitation
Noval is a young man 21 years old from Bekasi, West Java province. He is the third children of three siblings and coming from below middle class. His parents are no longer working because of retirement. As a result, when he graduated from high school in 2019, he gave up his intention to go straight to college and was unemployed.
However, he filled his free time with positive activities, namely by taking various courses such as English and coffee barista to increase his skills while looking for opportunities and better future life.
Finally, in 2020, he was selected to be one of the participants in the coffee barista skills entrepreneurship training organized by YIIM. He took full advantage of this opportunity, motivating him to open a coffee shop.
Strong Determination Bring Good Result
Along with his three friends, he started to open a coffee shop and named the coffee shop as “Doctor Brewes Coffee” in Bekasi regency of West Java province since December 2020.
He is able to get a gross monthly income of around 20-30 million rupiah by employing 2 employees, while he also support his employee become a barista at his own shop.
Not only that, his perseverance and tenacity also led him to get a scholarship to study at a private university, Jakarta Global University, majoring in electrical engineering. He is currently a 3rd semester student.
Studying and opening a coffee shop is the way that he choose to change his future life.
